M’goun Ascent Trek and the Happy Valley of Aït Bougmez
Embark on a 4-day adventure through the wild terrains of the High Atlas Mountains with the M’goun Ascent Trek, organized by Ecotourism Trek Morocco. This trek offers a perfect introduction to the magnificent region of the High Atlas, renowned for its rich landscapes and cultural heritage.
• Marrakech – Aït Bougmez Valley, known as the “Happy Valley
• Ait Bougumaze, hike towards Ikkiss
• Tarkeddit Plateau at the foot of the M’goun Massif.
• Ascend to the summit of M’goun 4,068 meters – camp
• Descend back through the valley to Agouti
• Agouti – Ouzoud waterfall – Marrakech
• Conclude the trek with a return to Marrakech, carrying with you unforgettable memories of the High Atlas.

Day 1: Marrakech – The Happy Valley of Aït Bougmez – Azibs N’Ikkis (2,300m)
Begin your journey with a scenic drive from Marrakech to Azilal, the last town before venturing into the deep valleys of the central High Atlas. Pass through the Aït Abbas Valley and the Happy Valley of Aït Bougmez, known for its picturesque landscapes and traditional Berber villages. Upon reaching Agouti, meet your team of muleteers and begin your trek. Hike through the charming Berber villages of the Arous Valley, characterized by their adobe architecture. After approximately 3 hours of walking and a 700m ascent, arrive at your campsite near the sheepfolds of Arous at 2,500m, where you’ll spend the night under the stars.
Day 2: Azibs n’Ikkis – Tarkeddit Pass – Tarkeddit Plateau
We begin our ascent along a mule track leading to the Tizi n’Oughri Pass at 3,400 meters. From here, enjoy panoramic views of the expansive northern slopes of Mount M’goun, the Tarkeddit Plateau, and the surrounding peaks. After a brief rest, we descend for approximately 1.5 hours to reach our campsite near the Refuge and sources of the Tassaout River at 2,900 meters. The afternoon is free for relaxation. Overnight in tents. Total walking time: 5.5 hours; elevation gain: 1,050m ascent, 500m descent.
Day 3: Tarkeddit Plateau – Ascent of M’goun (4,071m) – Izzbin
An early start around 4:00 a.m. prepare us for the challenging ascent of The Mount M’goun. We follow the long ridge of Ighil M’goun, reaching the summit at 4,071 meters. From the top, witness breathtaking views of the entire central High Atlas Mountains, the Dades Valley, and the Sarhro Massif to the south. After descending along a corridor, we reach our camp near the Oulilimt sheepfolds at 2,700 meters. Total walking time: 9 hours; elevation gain: 1,168m ascent, 1,368m descent. Note: For those preferring not to summit, an alternative route with the muleteers is available.
Day 4: Izzabin 2,600m – Aït Bougmez Valley
Descending the valley on our way, we bid farewell to the nomadic regions, From this vantage point, we are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the M’goun Massif. We then begin our descent toward Ikkiss valley, a serene spot perfect for a shaded lunch break. Expressing our gratitude to the muleteers, and say good bay. This day involves approximately 6 hours of walking.
Day 5: Aït Bougmez Valley – Marrakech
Enjoy your breakfast, take the drive towards Azilal and Ouzoud waterfall a massive landscapes of the cascades and nature Enjoy your lunch in a good terraced restaurant over the cliff and maybe watching the barbary macaque.
Day 6: Marrakech visit
Join your local guide to discover the red city through its bustling narrow streets and Jamaa_Elfna square.
Day 7: Marrakech_ Departures
Today there is no activity, transfers to Marrakech airport
